A friend does not like the words "renewable energy". Henceforth, I will refer to fossle fuel as "ancient stored solar energy", and wind, tidal power and hydro power as "recently stored solar energy" and photovoltaics and other direct conversion methods, as "immediately stored solar energy". Do you note a common thread -SOLAR ENERGY!
Another comment I get from doubters, is about the environmental impact of windmills - bird kill. This problem pales in comparison to the environmetal impact of burning "ancient stored solar energy". Think of killing the gulf stream, or rising ocean levels, or extinction of species, or northern migration of species, or glaciers melting, or dessertification of the mid latitudes.... Think of the fact that man, as the dominant species, has trashed the Pacific Ocean, with the 2 gyres of floating plastic, twice the size of Texas. The largest landfill in the world. Or, be aware that outer space has been trashed to the extent that it it has becone hazardous for space travelers. It is only going to get worse, as more collisions make more space junk.
Our additiction to oil, promotes going after the tar sands in Canada (an enviromnental disaster) and the oil under the north pole. Think of the resource wars already underway.
How will the history of civilization be viewed 500 years from now? The nuclear meltdowns will still be hot. Cities in coastal areas may be underwater or protected by dikes. The N and S Poles may be ice free. It is all about energy.
